Learn the craft of hand-drawn animation by bringing solid form, genuine life, and emotion to your drawings. In this course, we focus on understanding the three-dimensionality of your characters learning to feel their weight, volume, and personality, so they become believable and relatable on screen.

At The Rough Crew™, technique always serves storytelling. Each assignment begins with a question: What do I really want this scene to express? Because animation isn’t just about movement. It’s about entertainment.

Classes are held online in small groups that blend personal, one-on-one guidance with collaborative learning. Every student receives individual drawovers and video feedback, while also learning from the challenges and breakthroughs of their peers. Together, we push our drawings and our stories to life, one frame at a time.

Who is this course for?

  • Beginners to advanced artists passionate about hand-drawn animation
  • Those who want to bring believable and relateable characters to life
  • Students or professionals seeking guidance and feedback on personal or work projects
  • Anyone wanting to improve their portfolio/showreel

How Does It Work?

Each month, you’ll receive a task or continue your personal animation project. Eyal Navon will guide you through how to approach each scene: what to focus on, what to avoid, and how to elevate the believability of your characters to bring your animation to life.

You’ll upload your work online for review. During the weekly live Zoom session, Eyal will go through your animation frame by frame, share his screen, and give live drawovers and in-depth critique.

After each session, you’ll receive:

    • The recording of your Zoom feedback (MP4)

    • A video with drawovers and improvement suggestions applied to your animation

Course Structure:
(Flexible, you can choose your personal project)

Month 1: The “Jump” Exercise (Human, creature, or animal character)

Month 2: Acting out a scene (Emphasis on body mechanics)

Month 3: Dialogue & Lip Sync animation

Note: These milestones are flexible. Animation takes time, and a single assignment may take longer than a month, or we can adapt the scope to fit your timeframe. We work at your pace: whether you follow the curriculum or a personal project, you’ll receive tailored feedback to help you reach your specific goals.
